The Danajon Bank double barrier reef is one of the six double-barrier reefs made of numerous species of corals in the world.
The Danajon bank double-barrier reef is also known as “the center of the marine biodiversity” in the Pacific, because a wide range of marine life are bounded in this area.

The double-barrier reef is composed of many coral reefs, mangroves, and seagrasses where many fishes and other marine animals are feeding and making the biggest marine life's breeding area in the Visayas.

The double barrier reef (the middle pass diving spot), which is one of only six in the world, is situated at just 20 kilometers (11 nautical miles) heading to the 89° from our Scotty's dive center headquarters in Mactan (Cebu), which made this diving safari, a day or a half day journey only.
The Danajon bank area covers more that 271 square kilometers (105 square miles) and it is one of the very rare geological formations in the world (the Great barrier reef in Australia is "just" a single barrier reef).

Danajon bank double-barrier reef From technical cave diving at more than 45 meters (150 feet) to fun recreational dives at 18 meters (60 feet) and even snorkeling, the Danajon bank double barrier reef offers a lot of diving activities.

On the outskirts of the barrier, depending the tides, the current can be strong, and this is when you can see the big fishes like the yellow fins tuna, tiger sharks, and bull sharks have been sighted.

Between the inner double-barrier reefs, a mud dive is often made where you can encounter endless species of strange seashells, crabs like the blue crabs, and all the usual reef fishes on the not so scattered corals.

On the other hand, on top of the double barrier reef, it is an explosion of different coral species, and you'll see that they do not have enough space to grow as they are growing on top of each others.

Each time we dive at the double barrier reef, it feels like it's a different dive, it's never the same dive!

The fauna and the underwater flora is so various, that it's hard to describe it in a short way. You will always encounter a huge variety of colorful soft and hard corals with all the usual tropical reef fishes shoaling arround.
It is a paradise excellent for Macro Photography as the critters, nudibranchs, seahorses, gorgonians, sea fans... well, all the biodiversity are so numerous and colorful!

Overall, diving a double barrier reef is a unique experience that cannot be written, but need to be felt.
A once in a lifetime dive to do!
