There are many reasons to take this courses, below are just a few of them:
Approching a boat underwater can be dangerous as well as approaching a boat on the surface with powerful current. This can lead to an emergency situation if you do not have the knowledge to approach a boat safely after your dive.
Doing a proper and secure back roll from a rubber boat with a negative entry need some practice or at least to be taught.
