The Shangri-La Marine Sanctuary dive site is infront of our Dive Center.
Diving at the Shangri-La Marine Sanctuary diving site in Mactan, Cebu, is a unique experience and one of our commitment to protect the underwater world.
Scotty's Action Sports Network and the Shangri-La, protect and maintain this diving sanctuary with the Amores foundation.
This diving sanctuary is one of our commitment to the underwater protection.
On a regular basis, all the Scotty's staff clean the sanctuary from plastic and other pollution, check the biodiversity, control the population of the acanthaster (crown of thorns), and much more.
The dive spot is composed of a sloped plateau starting around 3 meters (10 feet) and going down to 20 meters (65 feet) then it becomes a beautiful wall down to 40 meters (130 feet). The a sandy slope with scattered soft coral down is down to 100 meters (330 feet) where we conduct our technical trimix 100 meters diver course as well as the 100 meters rebreather diving course.
The top of the wall is sandy filled with gorgeous and healthy corals where reef fishes are residing. We have sunk down a wooden wreck at 16 meters (52 feet) in 2011, and it is now filled with soft corals and sea fans with many schools of fish living in the wreck.
Barracudas are also living in the sanctuary where you can see the oldest with a size of 1.6 meters (5.4 feet).
Some cuttlefishes are now getting quite big as well as the parrotfish and all the coral's fish living there.
Diving at the Shangri-La Marine Sanctuary dive site.
The Shangri-La Marine Sanctuary is where we conduct all our course in Mactan. But it's also a well-known diving place as we (Shangri-la and Scotty's Dive Center) are totally commited to our marine sanctuary.
The impressive formations of different species of corals are a must-see with all the reef fishes shoaling around.
The critters are numerous all the way down, which makes this dive site a paradise for the underwater photographers.
Schools of fishes are also living in the sanctuary, like a school of jack and snappers. Lionfish (Pterois), nudibranchs, eels, sole fish and much more are scattered on the seabed all the way down.
Our thoughts about diving at the Shangri-La Marine Santuary dive site.
At just a jump from the pier of the Scotty's Dive Center, the Shangri-La House Reef diving site is a not-to-miss diving site if you are in Cebu for your vacations.
Our recommendations are to dive nitrox and to not forget your underwater camera as there is a lot to photograph at the Shangri-La dive site.
