Where is the Marigondon Cave?
The Marigondon Cave dive may very well be the most exciting dive along the coast of Mactan Island, Cebu. Marigondon Cave is located about 25 minutes to the south of Scotty's Dive Center.
Marigondon Cave dive description:
With a roof at around 29m and the floor about 40m, the Marigondon cave opens at first into a large cavern. At the entry, there is a small alcove to your right. The main tunnel opens forward and to the left as you begin moving further into the Marigondon cave. A large boulder looms to your right with enough room above it for a few divers to perch. You'll stay to the left and follow the main tunnel as it shrinks, but does not become restrictive. The Marigondon Cave is only called a cave because there is only a small area at its deepest point where you cannot see the mouth. For the most part it is a cavern. The terminus of Marigondon's main tunnel ends in "the Grotto" where you may darken your torches and whach the show of flashlight fish!
What are the conditions at the Marigondon Cave?
The current outside the mouth of the Marigondon Cave can be strong- especially on an ebb tide. Visibility and current within the cave are pristine- great viz and no water movement. As you enter the mouth of the cavern, you will notice a memorial to a diver (not ours) who panicked and lost his life in the Marigondon Cavern many years ago. While this dive is perfectly safe when undertaken with the proper support and supervision from our team, we recommend this dive only to Advanced Open Water Divers or higher with Nitrox training and at least one night dive experience. Qualified technical divers are of course welcome.
