Liloan: A real wreck dive for real wreck divers.
This wreck was not sunk as an artificial divers' reef. It actually caught fire and sunk. Laying on her port side in over 50m of water, this is a technical diver's dream. She served proudly as an automobile roll-on, roll-off (locally "ro-ro") vehicle ferry before meeting her end. At about 50 meters long, the Liloan Ferry wreck is easily the largest one in the area. In the photo on the left, you can see a diver about to descend into her massive auto deck cargo hold. The Liloan Wreck dive is not a dive for recreational divers. As mentioned, she sank unexpectedly and is not one of your typical divers' wrecks. All of her wiring and piping is strewn about passageways, making them a hazard for the untrained. For this reason, penetration is limited to the main cargo deck, even for certified technical divers. Teams certified in technical wreck penetration may penetrate the upper decks of the Liloan Ferry wreck, but venturing toward the engine room can be a greasy mess. No matter how advanced your diving skills, you will be expected to receive a full briefing. Most technical teams choose to bring along one of our experienced technical guides. Solo divers may join our team for a dive.
