The Enriched Air Nitrox is designed to help you learn the skills and procedures for diving with nitrogen-based blended gas with an enriched oxygen content between 22 and 40 percent. Sound complicated? It's not, Enriched Air Nitrox is actually really simple. We take clean dry compressed air, and then use special methods to add oxygen until we get the right mixture.
Why Nitrox?
You may recall from your Open Water Course that nitrogen imposes limits on our body in the form of No Decompression Times. Well, the real benefit of Enriched Air Nitrox is not that we have added oxygen, it's actually that the oxygen is replacing nitrogen in the breathing mixture. Is Nitrox safe?
Absolutely, some training agencies have actually called it SafeAIR. However, like other diving, Nitrox Diving is not without its risks. That's why the PADI Enriched Air Nitrox Course was designed to help divers understand the unique procedures required for diving with Nitrox. You will learned advanced dive planning for use when diving Enriched Air Nitrox. If you have your own computer, we'll even teach you how to set it for the correct oxygen mix!
What is the Nitrox Course like?
The nitrox course starts in the classroom, where you will watch a brief video covering the advantages, use, planning considerations, and potential hazards of enriched air nitrox diving. After that your instructor will work through some of the important physical and physiological aspects of diving on enriched air nitrox.
Your nitrox theory session will also cover things like oxygen exposure limits, oxygen partial pressure, and how to use special dive tables designed for use with enriched air nitrox. Your theory session will end with learning how to analyze your own nitrox tank and the procedures for procuring enriched air nitrox from your local dive shop at home or our dive shop in Cebu. After that, there's a small exam covering the important things you have learned about enriched air nitrox.
We offer the PADI Enriched Air Nitrox Specialty Course in two options. One option is simply the classroom theory and after that, you're a certified Enriched Air Diver. The other option includes two dives as part of your certification where you get to go out and do your first dives on enriched air nitrox.
